Ekelund 2019 meta-analysis (n=1M) showed ~60-75 min/day moderate-vigorous activity largely offsets the mortality cost of 8+ hours sitting. The 'sitting is the new smoking' framing overstates — it's not as bad as smoking — but the effect size is still substantial. Breaking up sitting with brief activity may matter more than total daily exercise.
